These enamel stone shapes are cut from 24 gauge copper sheet and slightly domed. They have layers of different colors to get the lovely combination of blue and copper coloring. They have clear enamel on the backside and measure 19mm.
Enameling is the process of sifting layers of powdered glass onto a metal base and heating until the glass is molten. Most of my components are very organic looking and have multiple colors. I love the contrast and mottled patterning that can be achieved through both crackle and separation enamels and I continually experiment with them to get new “recipes”.
These components are essentially glass on metal and are durable, but care should be taken with them. They can break if stressed, dropped or pinched with pliers.
